Update: I went back and listened to Steve's 30 second comment @15:05. Its interesting how a couple of sentences can attach themselves to your conciousness and how they can be misrepresented in one's memory. Steve applied the words concentric circles but described overlapping clouds in searching for the appropriate sound bite (rather than a visualiztion). My offering for the sound bite for those touched by the "twitter effect" that Steve describes is "The inclusive population of the rapidly expanding "interconnected twitter galaxies" or maybe its just my (and your) expanding extented twitter community.
Glad you're a part of it.
On today's NewsGang Live and a later twitter conversation, Steve was working on a virtual visualization to describe the transmission of ideas through the twitterverse. He conjured the view of a circle expanding from a drop of water in a pond. While I've always like that view, it does not capture either the parallelism or speed at which twitter allows communication. I offer up Karnough maps with each area representing a tweeter's galaxy of followers and the edges representing tweeters that are followed. Additionally, it takes about no time for a thought to get from one side of a tweeter's galaxy to the other and the only friction comes in retweeting or comment time that makes an idea visible.
